Saturday, January 08, 2005 Mood: Hanging in the balance Song: 张栋梁 - 寂寞边界 School's started, and I'm not feeling too optimistic about this semester. First, there's more (so much more) work to be done, even on a weekly basis. Like say, my CS103 Intro to Electronic and Broadcast Media module for example. I have weekly commentaries to do, an individual research project to be done, and some other unknown stuff which I will know in the coming weeks. And for the other modules, I think I can expect the same (if not more) number of assignments. Urgh. I just hate all the tight deadlines and ridiculous number of readings to be done on a daily basis. But, what I'm enjoying at the moment is my General Elective! I chose Drama and Performance, which is conducted by NIE, and best of all, my lecturer and tutor is Nora Samosir! She has acted in the biggest flop of English drama in the 90s - Masters of the Sea, and she's a great, fun person, as far as I can tell from the first lecture/tutorial. Of course, like all university courses, it is not all about acting and stuff (just constitutes 50% of the syllabus). There're actually readings to be done, and themes to discuss every week. Something like Literature in JC I guess. Hah, Colin and I chose to present The Theatre of Cruelty by some mad Frenchman, Artaud. I think it'll be an eye-opener. The best thing of all, NO exams! I can't believe I'm liking my GE more than my other core, boring modules. I went to Tiong Bahru Plaza earlier on assignment to watch this open space concert organized by the National Arts Council called 'The Stage Is Yours'. I am supposed to write for the Art Jam magazine, and managed to interview some of the budding artistes and dancers. Wow. I really admired their passion for their craft, because despite all the auntie/uncles who were there to watch their kids perform (there was this segment towards the end where students from Queenstown Primary performed some kinda boring ballet, which I thought was a slot-filler, but Meiji thought otherwise... I think she got carried by their cuteness), they still managed to perform up to my expectations! Haha... I think the three of us (me, Meiji and Daoxing, my photographer) were the only young adults there. Urgh. And I think the host, Cai Lilian needs to practise her skills more. True, she's a good singer, but hosting... I didn't like the forced saccharinity that she portrayed. I actually enjoyed being a journalist tonight. Which is.. such a rarity. Or maybe I just have a penchant for seeing my name in print. So cool! Gv complained @ 10:09 PM {xoxo} |
